The Best School Web Design Competition

1997

Hong Kong & Macau schools taking part in the Best School Web Design Competition

Schools in Hong Kong and Macau were invited to submit their web-based projects (these could include official school web pages as well as student team projects). Results of the competition are now available. St Joseph's College is the champion this year. Congratulations to Michael Chim and his team!

Background of the competition

The Academic Web Design Competition was held for the first time in 1996, as one of the highlights of the Second Hong Kong Web Symposium held in conjunction with the Asia Pacific Web 96 Conference. The difference between the present competition and the last one is that this year schools only were invited to take part, not individual students, because we wished to encourage more team work at the school level and to help schools acquire more computing resources which could be shared by more students within the school.

We allowed schools more time to develop their webs, so the closing date of the 1997 competition was 21 April. Apple Computer and other technology organizations, again, supported this event and donated some attractive prizes.

The judging panel and judging criteria

The judging panel was headed by Dr. Jeffrey Day, Principal Lecturer at The Hong Kong Institute of Education and the convenor of CRUCIAL (The Centre for Resources and Understanding in Cross-curricular Instruction and Learning), a funded project to develop cross-curricular resources for shared use in schools. He was assisted by a panel of judges drawn from Hong Kong tertiary institutions.

There were conditions for entry, a set of judging criteria and an entry form for this competition.
